Why have I received an invoice related to by-law enforcement?
1. Upon an initial visit to a property, the by-law enforcement officer will contact the property owner immediately to advise on infractions – there is no charge associated with the initial visit.
a. If the issue is resolved within 72 hours of contact, the file is closed with no additional action.
b. If the issue is not resolved by the 72-hour deadline, or contact cannot be established with the property owner, the by-law enforcement officer begins to prepare the file and issue an order that will communicate the required remedy for items not compliance with Town by-law(s).
2. After the initial visit when there are founded concerns, all fees associated with the file are invoiced to the property owner.
a. An invoice will be sent monthly to reflect any charges until the file is closed.
Note: Tickets or fines associated with non-compliance of Town by-laws may also be applicable.
The officer has the authority to undertake the necessary works should the property remain in contravention after the specified deadline as stated in the order and the property owner shall be liable for all Costs/Expenses incurred.
