2026 Town of Petrolia Municipal Election
Election Day is Monday, October 26, 2026
Voting period begins on Friday, October 16 through to Monday, October 26, 2026
The Town of Petrolia municipal election is conducted through on-line voting, Voter Information Cards will be mailed in late September to the current address on file. Should you need to update your qualified address information or add yourself to the voters list please visit the Election Ontario page to complete these updates at www.registertovoteon.ca
Notice of Election
Notice is hereby given to the municipal electors of the Town of Petrolia
Nominations in the Town of Petrolia for the offices of:
Mayor: One (1) position to be elected
Councillor: Six (6) positions to be elected
May be made by completing and filing in the office of the Clerk, nominations on the prescribed form and accompanied by the prescribed nomination filing fee of $200.00 for the head of council and $100.00 for all other offices. The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque, money order or debit.
The nomination of a person for an office on a Council must be endorsed by at least 25 persons in the prescribed form and in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act.
A nomination must be signed by the candidate and may be filed in person or by an agent during regular business hours between May 1, 2026 and August 20, 2026, and between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day).
In the event there are an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant positions only on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm and such additional nominations, if required, may be filed in the office of the Clerk.
Nomination of School Board Trustees
Lambton Kent District School Board
One (1) to be elected
Nomination forms to be filed on the prescribed form and accompanied by the filing fee of $100.00 cash, certified cheque, debit or money order at the Clerk’s office of the Township of St.Clair , 1155 Emily Street, Mooretwon, ON May 1 to August 20, 2026 during regular working hours and then on nomination day, Friday, August 21, 2026 between the hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. – please note an appointment with the Clerk is required.
St. Clair Catholic District School Board
One (1) to be elected to represent the Township of Brooke-Alvinston, Township of Warwick, Village of Oil Springs, Town of Petrolia, Township of Enniskillen, Town of Plympton Wyoming and Municipality of Lambton Shores.
Nomination forms to be filed on the prescribed form and accompanied by the filing fee of $100.00 cash, certified cheque, debit or money order at the Clerk’s office of the Town of Plympton Wyoming 546 Niagara St, Wyoming, Ont. May 1 to August 20, 2026 during regular working hours and then on nomination day, Friday, August 21, 2026 between the hours of 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Conseil Scolaire Viamonde
One (1) to be elected representing the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, County of Norfolk, County of Haldimand, and Municipalities located within the Counties of Elgin, Lambton and Oxford.
Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence
One (1) to be elected representing municipalities located within the Counties of Bruce, Grey, Huron, Lambton and Perth.
Nomination forms to be filed on the prescribed form and accompanied by the filing fee of $100.00 cash, certified cheque or money order at the Clerk’s office of the City of Sarnia, 255 Christina St N, Sarnia, Ont. May 1 to August 20, 2026, during regular working hours and then on nomination day, Friday, August 21, 2026, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
