The Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department is pleased to be celebrating 150 years of serving Petrolia and area in 2024. The appointment of the Fire Chief was bylaw number one in 1874, and the rest they say, is history.
The Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department (PNEFD) is looking forward to welcoming visitors to their 150th anniversary Open House on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Deputy Mayor/Petrolia Council Representative, Joel Field said, “I am proud of this group of volunteers. They are always the first to help, and they give so much to our community and to those surrounding Petrolia – truly remarkable! On behalf of the Council of the Town of Petrolia, here’s to another 150 years!”
Volunteers are bringing some great displays and some interactive activities to the public – geared toward youth and adults as well. The Fire Prevention Trailer will be on site and will provide an excellent learning opportunity about smoke and fire to young people. Sparky will be there for some selfies and photo fun, some restored and refurbished old equipment will be on display including the 1925 and 1946 fire trucks.
Deputy Mayor/Enniskillen Council Representative, Judy Krall said, “What an incredible milestone! On behalf of the Council of the Township of Enniskillen I extend my congratulations to an amazing 150 years of service to this fine group of selfless volunteers. We are collectively so fortunate for your dedication and service.”
The Rope Team will be there to demonstrate their repelling skills, and there will even be a bar-be-que with tasty treats available for a donation. You can even take a tour of the Hall and learn how to use a fire extinguisher!
Past members of the PNEFD are strongly encouraged to attend, as current Chief, Rick Cousins, has a gift for them. There will even be birthday cake!
Fire Chief/Director of Public Safety, Rick Cousins said, “…It’s exciting to be celebrating this milestone. We have an amazing team here and have a proud history of exemplary service and commitment from 150 years of dedicated members.”
