Following the recent rainfall, the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department will resume permitting rural burning (this includes all types of recreational fires) and will be issuing outdoor rural burn permits.
Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department remind citizens to abide by the Open-Air Burning By-Law in Petrolia (40-2013) and to not conduct recreational burning during any of Environment Canada’s “Air Quality Advisories”.
Some Reminders of the By-Law Details:
- The recreational open fire is to be controlled and supervised at all times.
- The fire pit shall be confined to pit (2 feet X 2 feet) with a spark guard to limit flame size and reduce the spread of embers.
- Confined to an area with a minimum distance of 3 meters from and adjacent buildings or property line.
- Only burn clean dry firewood or charcoal briquettes.
- Always have a water source nearby in the event the fire needs to be extinguished.
Consider your neighbours!
Smoke from fire pits can cause adverse health effects on some people. Be aware of neighbours that may be negatively impacted to exposure of smoke from recreational open burning. Be aware that during continuous burning, odours will infiltrate a neighbour’s home. Limit the time of your recreational open burn to a couple of hours. There should be no adverse impact upon your neighbours.
