Petrolia Canada Day Family Fishing Derby a Huge Success
The annual Canada Day family fishing derby returned this year and organizers were very pleased to welcome families to try their skills at catching a fish in Petrolia’s Little Lake in Bridgeview Park.
The annual fishing derby brought many families to the park and lots of first-time anglers had success in catching their first fish!
We are pleased to announce the winners this year:
4 & under
1st place- Sadie Deelstra – 27.5” Carp
2nd place- Hallie Deelstra – 27” Carp
3rd place – Brooks White – 24” Carp
5–6-year-olds
1st place- Wyatt Deelstra – 27” Catfish
2nd place- Alex Core – 18” Sucker
3rd place- Lucy Bright – 8” Catfish
7–9-year-olds
1st place- Jack Core – 24” Carp
2nd place- Lincoln Taylor – 16.5” Sucker
3rd place- Vivian Matlovitch – 14.5” Sucker
10–12-year-olds
1st place- Tie Richards – 31” Carp
2nd place- Keaton Weed – 22.25” Catfish
3rd place- Archer Weed – 14.5” Carp
13+
1st place- Cullen Pearson – 22” Catfish
2nd place- Porter Stec – 15” Catfish
3rd place- Ethan Butler- 9.75-inch Catfish

Director Parks, Recreation and Facilities, Julie Bullock said, “It was great to see more than 100 young anglers out for the annual Canada Day Family Fishing Derby. The weather was perfect, and the fish were biting – you can’t ask for better than that!”
