At-Home Composters – At Cost!
Through a partnership with Petrolia Home Hardware, residents can purchase an at-home composter for cost each April.
Annually, between the dates of April 1 and 15 residents can visit Town Hall, and register to receive an at-cost backyard composter. Although this price may differ slightly from year to year, the current cost will be $75.00 + HST per composter.
To obtain a voucher, residents must provide: proof of Petrolia address, and payment. At this time, a voucher will be issued to the resident.
After April 15, all composters will be ordered – once the composters are in
stock at Home Hardware all residents with voucher will be contacted by phone. Then residents will go directly to Home Hardware to collect the composter. (Voucher MUST BE provided to pick up the composter.)

Curb Side Pick Up Schedule
The Town of Petrolia and Waste Management will be distributing carts in November 2024 to eligible household and businesses.
The barcode on the carts are assigned to your address.
The carts are the property of Waste Management and must remain with the assigned address.
How to set out your carts:
Carts must be place at the curb/road by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day
The wheel and handle of the cart should be facing away form the road.
Carts need to have at least 3 feet of space between them for the truck arms to grab them
Do not over fill carts, the lids of the carts must be closed.
All material must be in the carts. Material on the ground or beside the carts will not be collected
Winter Consideration:
Do not place carts on top of or behind snowbanks.
When shoveling, clear a spot for the carts ensure it is flat and clear of any snowbanks.
Living with Carts:
The carts provide a storage unit for your waste and recycling material that you may other wise not have.
Some tips and suggestions on where the carts can be stored are as seen below:
Care for Carts:
Carts are assigned to each property with a barcode on the carts.
Carts must be secured within your property.
Cleaning of the carts will help to reduce odour and unwanted animals
Missing, Broken, and Found Carts:
Carts remain with the property they are assigned to and are the property of Waste Management.
All carts are barcoded and must remain at the assigned property.
Each property will receive the same number of carts.
Cart sizes were based on the average volume of waste and recycling residents dispose of.
Recycling: The recycling cart is the one with the yellow lid. Garbage: The garbage cart is the one with the green lid.
Extra Material:
All waste and recycling must be contained within the carts provided by the Town to receive collection. Extra waste outside of the carts will not be collected. Cart lids must be fully closed to ensure collection.
