



Parks and Recreation Master Plan
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will establish a strategy that will guide decision-making over the next ten years. Through research and public input, the Master Plan will examine parks and recreation services and establish priorities that align with Council’s strategic priorities. The Master Plan will explore various topic areas including:
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be prepared through three project phases:
Phase 1 involves undertaking background research and community consultation, which will provide the basis for the Master Plan. This phase will involve a review of applicable background documents, analysis of the community’s demographic profile, research on relevant trends, preparing inventories and mapping of the Town’s parks and recreation assets (including Victoria Playhouse Petrolia), and obtaining community input into the Master Plan.
Timing: October to December 2019
Phase 2 includes a number of assessments, including parkland, trails and open space needs; recreation facility needs; programming and delivery needs; and a benchmarking of rates and fees. This phase will result in a draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan (with draft implementation plan).
Timing: January to March 2020
Phase 3 provides an opportunity to test the draft Master Plan with the community prior to finalizing the document for Town Council’s consideration.

Parks and Recreation Master Plan
The Draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan is now complete! Through research and public input, the Draft Master Plan examines parks and recreation services and establishes priorities that align with Town Council’s strategic priorities. The Draft Master Plan explores various topic areas including indoor and outdoor recreation facilities, special events, parks, open spaces and trails.
As the Province of Ontario declared a State of Emergency and continues to take significant steps to limit the transmission of the COVID-19 virus, the Town of Petrolia remains committed to protecting the health and safety of the public, Council, and employees, while enabling community engagement to provide feedback on the Draft Parks and Recreation Master Plan prior to finalization for Council.
