Petrolia Mayor Honoured to be a Part of Nicol Selection Committee

Posted: June 19, 2020

Over the past 33 years the elected Mayor of the Town of Petrolia has had the privilege of being a member of the Nicol Selection Committee, thus playing a part in changing the life of an L.C.C.V.I. high school graduate as they proceed to post-secondary education.

The Committee meets annually to consider the applications.  These ‘pillars of the community’ as they are defined in the last will and testament of Mr. Robert M. Nicol include the Catholic Priest, Anglican Minister, High School Principal and Mayor of Petrolia.  They work closely to read through application letters and weigh their decisions based on several factors not limited to academic performance and community participation.

Mayor R. Brad Loosley said, “I am honoured to be a part of this opportunity to change the life of a student.  I really enjoy reading the submissions and learning about the people that will shape and build a strong future for our community and beyond.”  He added, “Each year, I look forward with anticipation, to the announcement of the honourees and wish the four 2020 recipients my sincere congratulations on behalf of the Town of Petrolia.”.

With everything, there is an evolution in the process and in the case of a trust account such as this one, adjustments are made as needed to prolong the benefit of the gift to the community.  Petrolia Town Council looks forward to an update from the Nicol Foundation about the continued efforts to maintain this important fund for the future of L.C.C.V.I. students.
