TITLE: New Petrolia Fire Chief to Start March 26
Petrolia, ON – During a special meeting of Council on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 the Council of the Town of Petrolia appointed Jay Arns for the Fire Chief of the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department, and Community Emergency Coordinator (CEMC) and By-Law Enforcement Officer for the Town of Petrolia.
From the list of fifteen qualified applicants, three were interviewed by a team consisting of Townshop of Enniskillen & Town of Petrolia Councillors, Fire Management Representatives, Municipal Clerks from both Town of Petrolia and the Township of Enniskillen, and two representatives from the Petrolia and North Enniskillen Fire Department. Mr. Arns will begin work on March 26, 2018, with plans to relocate to within the department response area soon after.
Chief Administrative Officer/Treasurer for the Town of Petrolia, Rick Charlebois said, “Mr. Arns history of progressive thinking in all areas of providing fire service to the public and providing professional development to all members is a very important aspect of this position, and we are looking forward to the strong relationships that he will develop with all stakeholders and service providers.” Charlebois added, “We are delighted that Mr. Arns has a strong history of community involvement and that he is focused on giving back to his community, and we look forward to welcoming him to Petrolia.”
Mr. Arns brings with him a long history of fire service that started in Calgary where he retired as Hazardous Materials Officer, he was the Coordinator and Professor of Fire Science and Pre-Firefighting at Lambton College. He is active as a volunteer for the Point Edward Fire Department and most recently worked as the Training Captain for Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services, a composite Fire Department of over 400 members. He has been a member of many international committees and organizations and has delivered hands-on training and classroom sessions to many fire departments throughout North America.
Township of Enniskillen Clerk/Administrator Duncan McTavish said, “Mr. Arns extensive training, education and experience in all aspects of fire protection, prevention and suppression; and his passion for lifelong learning secured the decision for the hiring committee, and we are looking forward to his service to our residents.”
