Mayor Letter to Residents – June 12, 2020

Posted: June 12, 2020

Dear Residents,

Thank you for your support as we continue to learn new ways of operating, and our businesses learn how to be open -safely. It is nice to see that a little bit more is open each week. Thank you for your collective patience as we all wait for the next announcements from the Provincial Government regarding the next steps our community can take to proceed with more businesses and services opening and with different limitations to gatherings.
Virtual Pizzafest weekend in Petrolia was a resounding success! On behalf of the Town, we would like to send out one more round of applause to our generous sponsors – thank you! Over the course of the two-day event, our pizzerias were kept busy with orders and some even sold out of their delicious pies! The entertainment was stellar and gave us all a chance to enjoy “live” music in an entirely new way. I am so pleased that so many families participated and showed their community spirit by decorating their homes and sending in photos.
I am excited that the compost transfer site has re-opened at the Progress Drive location. This is a great opportunity to finish your spring cleanup. I am pleased that we have been able to eliminate the cost of passes to residents for 2020 as we found the savings in the cancelled events.
Development continues to progress in our great town, and I am proud that staff have been able to begin offering video public meetings to help move some exciting projects forward. Petrolia is in a great position to face the changes that have been taking place and once we are collectively on the other side of this challenge, we will be stronger than ever!
Work is going to start on the Wingfield Reconstruction Project very soon, and if you would like more information you can visit www.town.petrolia.on.ca.
Please remember to thank a frontline worker at each opportunity, health care, long-term care workers, food service, restaurants, retail, services, postal services, custodial services, financial institutions and more are working each day to bring us the things that we need and a smile would make their day!
Thank you again Petrolia, I can’t stress enough that you have made the past few months better for our community by being patient, calm and listening to the guidelines from the Federal and Provincial Governments, Lambton Public Health and from our partners at Waste Management and more. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we meet each delayed item with new dates and new options. Petrolia is an awesome place, and we have each of you to thank for your part in that!
