COVID-19 Tax Payment Options for the Town of Petrolia

Property owners in the Town of Petrolia have many options when it comes to paying their property taxes during the COVID-19 pandemic.  To maintain the health and safety of residents and staff this will be the first time that the property tax installment, due May 29, 2020, cannot be made in person at the Municipal Office.

The options that are available provide physical distancing and offer property owners a variety of payment methods.  Deputy Treasurer, Annette Strand said, “We have considered a series of options for our property owners and given special consideration for those who do not use the internet to complete their bill payments.”

For each of the following payment options, property owners are reminded to include your Roll Number located on the top of your tax bill. If you don’t have your Roll Number we can provide it for you, please call the office (519)882-2350 or send an e-mail to payments@petrolia.ca

Staff are pleased to help property owners with any of the following payment method options:

As many members of our community are feeling the economic impact of the shut-down of businesses related to the emergency measures implemented to contain the spread of COVID-19,  Council has responded to the community by voting to implement initiatives intended to provide temporary financial relief to ratepayers.

On April 14, 2020, the Council of the Town of Petrolia provided short-term relief to ratepayers related to property tax penalty and interest, and water and sewer interest charges and Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) charges. Council also approved adjustments related to building permit fees during this time.

The following measures have been approved:

  1. The Council of the Town of Petrolia has waived the penalty and interest charges on property taxes until May 31, 2020;
  2. The Council of the Town of Petrolia has waived the late fees on water and sewer charges until May 31, 2020;
  3. The Council of the Town of Petrolia has waived the late fees on miscellaneous invoices until May 31, 2020; and
  4. The Council of the Town of Petrolia has waived the NSF fee for anyone whose payment is returned until May 31, 2020;

Council has also approved that issued building permits that are cancelled due to complications during the Provincial emergency prior to the commencement of construction, be refunded 100%.

These measures will be reviewed at the May 25 Regular Meeting of Council for further consideration as more information regarding the pandemic closures is available. Residents are reminded that assistance is available by calling (519)882-2350 or sending an e-mail to payments@petrolia.ca.
