Petrolia Farmers’ Market Opening Scheduled for June 27, 2020

The open-air Petrolia Farmers’ Market will open to the public on Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 7:30 a.m. until noon with a few vendors as the new guidelines are tested and staff educate patrons on new safety protocols. This comes after a 6-week delay while staff worked with Farmers’ Markets Ontario, Sustain Ontario, and Lambton Public Health to change the layout and general operations for this season.

Physical distancing requirements and limits to social gathering will see the Kerr Café closed until further notice, and there are new rules for patrons to observe for the safety of themselves and our vendors.

“The social gathering at the Petrolia Farmers’ Market will be quite limited this year.” Said Dave Menzies, Director of Community Services. “Our new traffic patterns encourage patrons to wait to visit a vendor at an appropriate distance and to point out the items they wish to purchase instead of handling them.”

Farmers’ Markets in Ontario are identified as essential services. The new protocols and a new layout have been tested by staff, and Lambton Public Health has approved the changes. Some of these changes include:

• Vendors will be set up facing Station Street and Fletcher Street with no central walking path
• Patrons are asked to observe the new foot paths designed to maintain 6 feet of distance and to allow everyone to safely shop
• The Market will be limited to eight vendors this season to afford the space required for physical distancing guidelines.
• Many of patrons favourite vendors will be back this season.
• Cash will be accepted as payment
• Masks are welcome
• Gathering of any kind is not permitted at this time
• Please follow the posted signs for information, or ask an onsite volunteer

The Grand Opening celebration has been postponed and is being considered for a date in the future when it is safe to do so.
