Municipal Councillor Visits Petrolia Civics & Careers Classes at LCCVI

On Tuesday, two of Ms. Langstaff’s classes at LCCVI in Petrolia welcomed Councillor Grant Purdy to speak to them about local government.

The students learned about what the Town of Petrolia does, the roles that Council and staff have, and how they benefit the community.  As a second term Councillor, Purdy was able to provide insight into the election process and advise the students about running a campaign and handling a debate.  The students are currently preparing for a “Mock Election” that will see a “Prime Minister” selected for the school.  The Mock Election will have the students campaigning and debating, and eventually voting.

Councillor Purdy was pleased to be invited to speak to the students and provide them with information about the role of Council in making Petrolia a great place to live through policy, public input and working closely with staff.  Purdy said, “I was honoured to be asked to speak to the students, and I was glad to provide them with tips to run their campaigns and to help them understand how Municipal government works.”
