Town of Petrolia Donates Land to Habitat for Humanity

Wednesday, February 14, 2018

Sarnia, ON – Representatives from the Town of Petrolia and Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton gathered today at 4158 James Street in Petrolia to mark the donation of the vacant lot to the local charity.

Construction of a home on the lot is slated to commence in the spring of 2019 for completion later that year, and will increase and enhance the local supply of affordable housing.

Council for the Town of Petrolia felt that the proximity to downtown, and other Petrolia amenities made this lot an ideal location for a Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton home.  Town staff are looking forward to providing hands on assistance during the build.

Mayor John McCharles said, “Our community is all about caring for people, and for providing a community of health for our residents.  We look forward to the Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton project on James Street.”

The Town of Petrolia works to promote a community of health in Petrolia and strives to set Petrolia apart by maintaining quality services and amenities for residents including the Oil Heritage District Community Centre, the Victoria Playhouse Petrolia, the Petrolia Farmers’ Market and the Greenwood Recreation Centre.  Petrolia boasts ample greenspaces and hosts a variety of community events each year.

Serving Sarnia/Lambton since 1994, Habitat for Humanity builds then sells simple, decent and affordable homes to families in Sarnia and Lambton County for a $0-down, 0%-interest, 20-year, Habitat-held mortgage.  100% of mortgage revenues generated by Habitat partner families, and 100% of every dollar donated to the charity locally, is reinvested in the building of more homes for more local families.
